The India Society of Worcester (ISW) organized a Diwali celebration at Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston, bringing together community members and performers for an evening of cultural programs and public participation.
Held in collaboration with Faneuil Hall Marketplace, the event featured Indian classical and contemporary performances, including Bharatanatyam, Bollywood dance, and traditional music. Hundreds attended the program, which aimed to promote cultural awareness and community involvement.

A Dhol Tasha drumming performance was among the key attractions, starting with a group of children and followed by adult participants.
“Diwali at Faneuil Hall was a collective effort spanning generations, from young children to grandparents,” said event coordinator Ashok Kale. “The enthusiasm of the performers and volunteers made the evening truly special. The mix of traditional and modern performances reflected the depth and dynamism of Indian culture.”
Longtime ISW volunteer Carolyn Passey said the program ran efficiently. “The energy was incredible,” she said. “Everything ran so smoothly, and the crowd was fully engaged from start to finish.”
The event included Aakash Kandil lanterns, cultural booths, and displays that provided visitors an introduction to Diwali traditions. For many Indian Americans, the gathering was an opportunity to reconnect with familiar customs, while others experienced the festival for the first time.
ISW stated that the turnout reflected continued interest in Indian cultural activities across the region. The organization said it remains focused on encouraging youth participation and fostering community ties through similar events.
“The success of this Diwali celebration once again demonstrates how culture brings people together,” Kale added.
Founded in 1963, the India Society of Worcester is one of New England’s oldest Indian American organizations. Its activities center on promoting Indian heritage, culture, and community service through educational and cultural programs.
The Diwali event at Faneuil Hall was one of ISW’s largest public gatherings in Boston, highlighting the growing reach of Indian cultural programming in Massachusetts.
