The White House on Oct. 1 praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a wide circle of world leaders for endorsing President Donald Trump’s new proposal to end the war in Gaza, framing the rare chorus of international support as a turning point in Middle East diplomacy.

Modi welcomed Trump’s announcement of a “comprehensive plan” to halt hostilities, release hostages, and open the enclave to humanitarian relief. “It provides a viable pathway to long-term and sustainable peace, security and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as also for the larger West Asian region,” Modi said. He added that “all concerned will come together behind President Trump’s initiative and support this effort to end conflict and secure peace”.
