On the occasion of Vesak, Mathur met Vikas Kumar and Harsh Kumar, two Buddhist monks from New Delhi who are currently pursuing their studies in Nanjing. He conveyed his greetings and best wishes to the monks, and the interaction highlighted the longstanding cultural and civilizational links between India and China through their shared Buddhist heritage.
Mathur also met Chik Chun Ming, Head of International Business Development at Forbes China. Discussions focused on India's economic growth trajectory, its increasing role in regional development and its contribution to building resilient and diversified global supply chains.
In a separate meeting, the Consul General interacted with Zhang Mi, founder and director of a Yongkang-based stainless steel enterprise. The discussion centered on the growing importance of the Indian market for global manufacturers and opportunities arising from India's rapid economic expansion and green development initiatives.
He also met Nirose Parambathkandy, president of the Keralam Committee in Yiwu, to discuss future community outreach efforts and cultural programs. The two explored ways to strengthen ties within the Indian diaspora and promote the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.
The Consulate said the interactions underscored India's continued engagement with friends of India, business leaders, cultural stakeholders and members of the Indian community in Eastern China.
The meetings came days after Mathur inaugurated Vesak celebrations at Shanghai's historic Jade Buddha Temple on May 31, an event attended by more than 1,000 devotees, Buddhist scholars and clergy members commemorating the birth, enlightenment and Mahaparinirvana of Lord Buddha.
During the visit, the Consul General participated in a curtain-raiser event for the International Day of Yoga 2026 at the temple. The program focused on holistic healing and well-being, highlighting the complementary traditions of yoga, meditation and Buddhist philosophy in promoting physical, mental and spiritual wellness.
