An Indian woman from Maharashtra marked her Canadian citizenship ceremony in a traditional Nauvari saree, saying the choice was a way to “keep her roots alive” as she embraced a new national identity.
Divya Lotlikar attended the oath-taking ceremony dressed in the Maharashtrian nine-yard saree, along with a traditional nath (nose pin) and a bindi. She shared visuals from the ceremony on Instagram, including the moment she received her citizenship certificate.

This lady failed her first chance to prove she is becoming Canadian by embracing way of life and assimilating into Canadian heritage. It is fine to maintain your roots within your private life, but out on the main street, you are a Canadian. If you are unable to show who you are, you have let down the people in Canada who gave you a chance to become one of them. She mentioned in her note 'perseverance, adaptation, and quiet determination.' Determination to do what? How can someone adapt to another culture when they are showing their 'true colors' on day one? It’s time to join the melting pot. Canada failed in this aspect long ago; if you do not adjust, you are finished as an immigrant and we are finished as a nation
