World’s Biggest Census Starts in India with 3 Million Officials

May 2026 406 views 2:10

India has launched the first phase of what will be the world’s largest population census, involving over 3 million officials. The 2026 census will be India’s first fully digital exercise, featuring a self-enumeration option and including caste data for the first time since 1931. Officials say the data will help improve infrastructure, living conditions, and policy planning across the country.
