FOG India Day Mela and parade returns to Fremont
The two-day celebration will showcase Indian culture through performances, food, arts and community activities.

The 34th annual Festival of India Mela and Parade will be held Aug. 15 and 16 in Fremont, California.
Presented by the Festival of Globe (FOG), the two-day event will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Paseo Padre Parkway and will feature cultural performances, Indian cuisine, exhibits, handicrafts and family activities.

The mela on Aug. 15 will include more than 120 booths and exhibits featuring arts, crafts, literature, fashion and design, according to organizers. The India Day Parade will take place Aug. 16 bringing together cultural organizations and groups from across the region.
The 2026 celebration comes as the United States marks its 250th anniversary and India prepares to celebrate its 80th Independence Day. FOG has incorporated both milestones into its broader 2026 programming, highlighting the Indian American community's cultural heritage and ties to the United States.
The festival has been held in Fremont for more than three decades and has grown beyond an India Independence Day celebration into a broader community gathering showcasing India's regional traditions and bringing together groups representing different cultures.
Fremont's city government has promoted the festival as a major Indian cultural event in the Bay Area. The City of Fremont has also listed the event on its official calendar and directed residents to FOG for information about the fair and parade.
The weekend will bring traffic changes in the surrounding area. According to information circulated by the Fremont Police Department, Walnut Avenue between Paseo Padre Parkway and Liberty Street will be closed from 6 a.m. Aug. 15 through 11:59 p.m. Aug. 16 for the event.
FOG is operated by the Federation of Indo-Americans of Northern California, a Fremont-based nonprofit organization.
