Zee 5 Global will premiere Bandar, Anurag Kashyap’s latest directorial venture starring Bobby Deol, exclusively on Aug. 28.

The Hindi crime drama and psychological thriller follows Samar Mehra, a once-popular television star whose life spirals after he is accused of rape by a former partner. As the allegations trigger intense media scrutiny and a legal battle, the film explores questions surrounding accusation, consent, public perception and justice.

Positioned around the #MeTooForMen discourse, Bandar examines whether men can also become victims of accusation, media trials and social judgment. The film also stars Sanya Malhotra, Sapna Pabbi, Saba Azad, Indrajith Sukumaran, Raj B. Shetty and Jitendra Joshi.

Kashyap said the story was driven by its willingness to confront difficult questions. “The film challenges audiences to look beyond black-and-white narratives and consider the uncomfortable grey areas that often exist in real life. It asks whether we are truly willing to listen before we judge, and whether our understanding of victimhood, truth and empathy is sometimes influenced by our own assumptions,” he said, adding that Deol had brought “a vulnerability and intensity that the role demanded.”

Deol described the project as a rare experience that pushed him beyond his comfort zone. “I had to let go of my inhibitions, trust the process, and fully surrender to Anurag's vision. What I love about Anurag's storytelling is that he never takes the obvious route.  ,” the actor said. “Playing this role was both challenging and liberating.”

Sapna Pabbi, who plays Gayatri, called the character layered and unpredictable, while Malhotra said the film encourages audiences to examine situations from different perspectives.

Siju Prabhakaran, chief business officer at Zee 5 Global, said the platform was excited to bring the provocative story to audiences worldwide. “Bandar is a bold and unconventional film that does exactly that. It explores the complexities of accusation, perception and justice without offering easy answers, and we are excited to bring this provocative story to audiences globally,” he said.

Produced by Saffron Magicworks and Zee Studios, Bandar will stream exclusively on Zee 5 Global from August 28.
