An American woman living in India called out a wave of racist comments directed at Indians after an Instagram reel featuring her young daughter attracted abusive responses.

Kristen Fischer, who frequently documents her life in India, said she was taken aback by the remarks that followed a light-hearted video of her daughter doing the Indian head nod.

In her caption, she wrote that people were saying “incredibly rude things… on a video of an innocent child,” adding that the incident made her notice “that Indians have a lot of online racism and hatred.”

Describing Indians as one of the nicest people, she  questioned why Indians often become targets of online hostility.“Honestly, Indians are some of the nicest and most caring people that I have ever met and on behalf of other foreigners, I just wanted to say I am so sorry for all of the hatred that you guys have had to face.”

Fischer, who has lived in India for some time and has previously sparked debate for her cultural commentary, said she intends to continue posting positive experiences from her life in the country.
The backlash against the video drew widespread support from her followers. One user commented, “Don’t just pay attention to such comments. Enjoy staying in India. We love you and your family too much.”

Several followers pointed to misinformation shaping perceptions of India. “India is being hated by many in the West as they have no idea what India truly is,” one comment said.

Others urged Fischer to continue her work, with a user writing, “Forget the negativity — it doesn’t deserve your energy. Just keep creating the amazing content we all adore.”

Fischer said the experience has made her more aware of the racial hostility Indians face online and hopes her platform can counter negative narratives with a more grounded portrayal of life in India.
