Washington State University names Raj Khosla agricultural dean

Washington State University has named Raj Khosla, an Indian-American expert in precision agriculture, as the new Cashup Davis Family endowed dean of the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS).

As dean, Khosla will oversee CAHNRS’s academic and research efforts across 13 academic units, 49 degree programs, and multiple statewide Extension and research centers. In 2024, CAHNRS brought in more than $105 million in extramural funding, supporting a wide range of research from organic agriculture to apparel design.

“We are confident that under Dr. Khosla’s leadership, CAHNRS will continue its storied legacy and advance WSU’s land-grant mission of serving all people through education, research, and service,” said T. Chris Riley-Tillman provost and executive vice president. 

Khosla currently leads the department of agronomy at Kansas State University. He is a past president and founder of the International Society of Precision Agriculture, with a career focused on advancing sustainable agricultural practices through data-driven management.

Khosla’s national and international policy roles include serving as a senior science advisor on Food Security to the U.S. Department of State and advising NASA. He is a fellow of seven scientific societies, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

He succeeds Wendy Powers, who resigned in August 2024. senior associate dean Scot Hulbert will serve as acting dean beginning June 16 until Khosla assumes the position.

Khosla earned his B.Sc. from the University of Allahabad, India, M.S. and Ph.D. at Virginia Tech in 1992 and 1995, respectively.
