Washington Freedom secured a one-wicket victory over Texas Super Kings on the final ball of their Major League Cricket match at the Oakland Coliseum after successfully chasing a target of 186.

Texas Super Kings posted 185/4 in their allotted 20 overs after recovering from an early setback. Faf du Plessis was dismissed for 8 before Saiteja Mukkamalla scored 37 and Rilee Rossouw contributed 34.

Wiaan Mulder and Donovan Ferreira added an unbeaten 75-run partnership for the fifth wicket, with Mulder finishing on 43 not out off 20 balls and Ferreira remaining unbeaten on 44 off 20 to lift the innings. Nikhil Chaudhary was the most successful Freedom bowler with figures of 2/29.

Washington Freedom made a strong start through Mitchell Owen and captain Steven Smith. Owen scored 77 from 35 deliveries, including seven fours and six sixes, while Smith made 30 off 21 balls. Their 91-run opening partnership placed Freedom in a commanding position.

Texas Super Kings, however, reduced the required equation in the closing stages through disciplined bowling. Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein claimed Major League Cricket's first hat-trick in the penultimate over, dismissing Marco Jansen, Amila Aponso and Asif Mehmood in consecutive deliveries. Hosein finished with figures of 4/36, leaving Washington Freedom at 180/9 and requiring six runs from the final delivery.

With six needed from the last ball, Nikhil Chaudhary struck Dasun Shanaka over midwicket for six to complete the chase. Chaudhary remained unbeaten on 27 from 19 deliveries as Washington Freedom finished on 187/9.

Despite Hosein's four-wicket haul and historic hat-trick, Texas Super Kings were unable to defend their total, while Washington Freedom registered a one-wicket victory.

Brief scores: Texas Super Kings 185/4 in 20 overs (Wiaan Mulder 43 not out, Donovan Ferreira 44 not out, Saiteja Mukkamalla 37; Nikhil Chaudhary 2/29) lost to Washington Freedom 187/9 in 20 overs (Mitchell Owen 77, Steven Smith 30, Nikhil Chaudhary 27 not out; Akeal Hosein 4/36, Adam Milne 2/31) by one wicket.
