The Fresno police department has denied reports that the victim of a shooting incident in California on Apr.29 was Goldy Brar, who is one of the prime suspects in Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s murder case. The clarification came hours after several media reports suggested that Brar had been shot dead in the US.

According to the Fresno police, two people were attacked on Apr.29 after a fight at Fairmont and Holt Avenue in the northwestern part of Fresno. One of the two persons later died at a hospital. The other person was released after treatment.

The police haven’t yet identified any of the two people.

The younger of the two attacked, said to be in his 30s, was shot in the upper body and succumbed to his injuries. The other man was hit in the lower part of the body.

“If you are inquiring because of the online chatter claiming that the shooting victim is ‘Goldy Brar’, we can confirm that this is absolutely not true. We have received inquiries from around the world this morning as a result of misinformation being spread on social media and online news agencies. We are not sure who started this rumor, but it caught on and spread like wildfire. But again, it isn’t true. The victim is definitely not Goldy,” Lieutenant William J Dooley is understood to have said this in an email response to news agencies.

Brar, whose origins are from the Punjab city of Muktsar, set foot in Canada in 2017 on a student visa and started a career in crime right away.
Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala, was shot dead in India in May 2022.
