The Vedanta Society of Portland will celebrate its 100th anniversary this weekend with a three-day program of worship, music, and lectures featuring Swami Sarvapriyananda, minister-in-charge of the Vedanta Society of New York.
The centennial celebration will take place from October 4 to 6 across multiple venues in Portland and Tigard, marking a century of the Society’s spiritual service in Oregon.
The event opens on Oct. 4 morning at the Vedanta Temple on SE 55th Avenue with a special worship service including chanting and devotional singing. In the evening, Swami Sarvapriyananda will deliver a public lecture on “The Light of Lights” at Taborspace, an interfaith community center in Southeast Portland.

The celebration will conclude on Oct. 6 with an elaborate morning puja, a commemorative meeting titled “Glorious Past and Promising Future,” and an evening lecture on “Ideal Guru-Disciple Relationship” at the Hindu Temple in Tigard. All events are free and open to the public.
“Such a rare milestone gives us an opportunity to remember the glorious days of the past and gain inspiration for future growth,” said Swami Chandrashekharananda, minister-in-charge of the Vedanta Society of Portland. “We invite everyone to join us in celebrating this great occasion and in deepening our spiritual fervor.”
Swami Sarvapriyananda, often referred to as the “YouTube Swami” for his widely viewed online talks, is one of the most prominent representatives of the Vedanta movement today. Known for his lucid explanations of complex spiritual concepts, he has lectured at institutions such as Harvard and the United Nations.
