British-Indian media executive Usha Parmar was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 Yorkshire Business Power Awards, in recognition of her decades-long contribution to broadcasting, social advocacy, and community empowerment.
Parmar, chief executive officer of Sunrise Radio (Yorkshire), was honored for transforming the station into a respected platform for the UK’s Asian community and for her commitment to social change.

Throughout her career, she has been a vocal advocate for women’s rights and youth empowerment, launching training initiatives, embracing digital innovation, and challenging cultural and gender norms through inclusive media practices.
“I am extremely humbled and honoured to have my dedication and commitment recognised at the Business Power Awards. Well done to all the finalists and Andleeb and Nadim for an amazing event,” Parmar said.
Sunrise Radio is a comprehensive broadcasting service offering music, news, information, and entertainment tailored to the Asian community. Since its launch on 9 December 1989 from studios in Bradford city centre, the station has significantly expanded its reach. It now broadcasts on FM (100.6FM across Calderdale and Keighley) and on DAB, reaching audiences in various parts of the UK, including East Lancashire and Milton Keynes.
Organized by the Asian Express newspaper, the awards ceremony took place on July 13 at the Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford, celebrating women who exemplify leadership, resilience, and impact.
