USA to face India in chess showdown at Arlington

Indian and US chess players will face off Oct. 4 in a showdown hosted in Arlington, Texas. Checkmate: USA vs. India, hosted by Checkmate Strategic Ventures, will bring together top players from both countries in a fast-paced team competition set to take place at the at Esports Stadium.
The encounter will be Leg 1 of the series, with a return match scheduled in India at a later date. As hosts, American players will play white on all boards, gaining home-side advantage.

The match consists of 5 rounds, played sequentially, one board at a time. Each matchup is designed to highlight a different facet of the game—from elite grandmasters to emerging youth and top chess streamers.
American chess grandmaster, Hikaru Nakamura said the match is an exciting opportunity to bring elite chess to a wider audience. “India has become one of the most exciting forces in global chess, and I’m thrilled to take them on in front of a live crowd here in the U.S. We want to show the world that America is home to some of the best players in the game—and that chess can be as thrilling and competitive as any major sport.”

Broadcast and sponsorship proposals are currently being accepted, with the organizers highlighting opportunities for global media and brand partnerships.
