US Pacific Northwest leaders greet India on Independence Day
The Consulate also released a special rendition of “Vande Mataram” by Grammy Award-winning violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan and students of the Swara Yoga Ensemble.

The Consulate General of India in Seattle has received greetings and congratulatory messages from governors, members of the US Congress and other leaders from the Pacific Northwest ahead of India’s 80th Independence Day celebrations on Aug. 15.
Governors of Washington, South Dakota, Montana and Alaska conveyed messages to the Consulate, while US Senator Maria Cantwell and Representatives Adam Smith, Kim Schrier, Suzan DelBene, Dusty Johnson, Marilyn Strickland and Michael Baumgartner sent video greetings.
Washington and Nebraska also issued official proclamations declaring Aug. 15, 2026, as India Day across their jurisdictions. Mayors of Seattle, Bellevue, Kent and SeaTac, along with the King County Council, issued proclamations recognising Indian Americans’ contributions to cultural, economic and civic life.

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte praised the Indian and Indian American community's contributions to the state's “cultural, educational, and economic life,” while Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy said the community had strengthened the state through its contributions to the economy, schools, healthcare, businesses and communities. South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden expressed hope that friendship between the two peoples would continue to grow.
Cantwell said the achievements of India and its people “continue to inspire communities around the world.” Smith highlighted the importance of US-India relations and praised the Indian community's contributions across education, government, business, innovation and technology. Schrier described Washington's Indian American community as central to the state's educational, cultural and economic life.
Strickland praised India's commitment to innovation, learning and community, while DelBene said the US-India partnership remained strong, particularly in the Pacific Northwest. Johnson called India a “stable, forward-looking, growing, and increasingly prosperous country,” while Baumgartner stressed the importance of strong US-India relations for global peace and stability.
The Consulate also released a special rendition of “Vande Mataram” by Grammy Award-winning violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan and students of the Swara Yoga Ensemble.
The Aug. 15 celebrations will include a flag-hoisting ceremony atop the Federal Reserve Building. Last year, Seattle raised the Indian tricolor atop the Space Needle to mark Independence Day.
