The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi announced that it will host a Town Hall meeting for U.S. citizens in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, on Sept. 17.

According to the Embassy, the session will provide American citizens in the region an opportunity to interact with consular officials and learn more about services available to them. The event is scheduled from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Coffee Shop of the Jaisalmer Marriott Resort & Spa hotel on Sam Road.

A consular officer will deliver a presentation on support offered through American Citizen Services (ACS) and assist with registration in the State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). Citizens attending will also have the opportunity to raise questions directly with Embassy officials.

In addition to the Town Hall, offsite consular services will be offered in Jaisalmer, including passport and notarial support. The Embassy has clarified that passport fees must be paid online through pay.gov, while notarial fees are to be paid via demand draft in favor of “U.S. Embassy New Delhi.”

Town Halls form part of the Embassy’s wider outreach to American citizens in India, which is home to one of the largest U.S. expatriate communities in Asia. ACS provides services ranging from passport issuance and emergency assistance to access to federal benefits, while STEP registration enables citizens to receive safety updates and allows consular officials to make contact during emergencies such as natural disasters or civil unrest.

Jaisalmer, located near India’s western border, is a well-known tourist destination but also a remote region. By hosting the Town Hall outside New Delhi, the Embassy said it aims to extend access to consular services for U.S. citizens who may find it difficult to travel to the capital.

U.S. citizens wishing to attend are required to RSVP by emailing the embassy.
