President Donald Trump has proclaimed May 2025 as Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, using the occasion to recognize the contributions of Indian immigrants and other members of the AAPI community to the United States.

“In the 1980s, Lakshmi and Radhakrishna Chilukuri immigrated from India to the United States and dedicated their lives to higher education,” Trump said in the proclamation, which was issued from his office on May 16. “They built a life in America and raised a family, their daughters Usha and Shreya, instilling in them the values of hard work, perseverance, and a love of learning.”
