Indian-origin student Tanya Singh received the Faculty Award for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement from the University of Kansas School of Law for her contributions to legal and student leadership.
The award, presented at the KU Law hooding ceremony on May 16, is given to graduates who have made the most significant contribution toward overall legal scholarship. Singh was among 11 KU Law students recognized at the ceremony.

A member of the Class of 2026, Singh served as vice president of the Business and Tax Law Society, chaired KU’s Student Health Advisory Board and was a member of the Moot Court Council. She also oversaw the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program during the 2025-26 academic year and served as a student ambassador for three years.
In addition, Singh worked as a research assistant for professors Najarian Peters and Andrew Torrance and participated in KU Law’s Medical-Legal Partnership field placement program.
Singh said she decided to attend KU Law after joining the university’s LEAD Program, which she said made the law school admissions process more accessible and less stressful.
“I found that KU Law was the best fit for me as it is close to my hometown and provides a generally well-rounded legal education to students which emphasizes the acquisition of professional skills,” Singh said.
Singh earned bachelor’s degrees in biology and political science from the University of Kansas through the university’s LEAD Program and University Honors Program, completing her undergraduate education in three years before beginning law school in 2023.
The daughter of Preeti and Avinash Singh, she graduated from Manhattan High School and will attend the University of Kansas Medical School this fall.
Funds for the student awards are managed by KU Endowment, the independent nonprofit organization that serves as the university’s official fundraising and fund-management organization.
