Swarthmore College appoints Jyothi Das to board of managers

In her new role, Das will contribute marketing expertise and global development experience, to strengthen the college’s mission.

Pennsylvania-based Swarthmore College has appointed Indian-American marketing professional Jyothi Das to its board of managers, recognizing her leadership experience across the marketing, education, and consumer goods sectors. 

A seasoned professional with more than two decades of expertise, Das will join fellow alumni Michael Costonis ’and Jim Sailer as new members of the governing body.

Das has built a career at the intersection of marketing and social impact, identifying emerging markets and developing products informed by consumer insights. She has held leadership roles at several major organizations, including Unilever, LeapFrog, LexisNexis, and Revolution Foods, where she contributed to innovative approaches in brand development, product design, and consumer engagement.

Currently, Das serves as co-president of the Bay Area chapter of Pratham, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding educational and vocational opportunities for women and youth in India and around the world. She is also a member of the advisory board of DesignFC, a nonprofit founded by Swarthmore graduate Omri Gal, which empowers under-resourced youth through design and creative self-expression.

Das credits her Swarthmore education with shaping her professional path. At the College, she earned a bachelor’s degree with honors in English literature and economics. She later pursued graduate studies at the University of Michigan, earning both an MBA and an M.A. in South Asian Studies.

Board chair Harold “Koof” Kalkstein welcomed the board appointment, “I know they will bring valuable insight and perspective to the Board as we work with the entire Swarthmore community to strengthen the College for generations to come.”
