“Sovereign right,” Rubio defends U.S. border control measures

Rubio stressed that border controls do not equate to a rejection of immigration.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States has a fundamental sovereign right to control its borders, arguing that mass migration poses serious challenges to social cohesion, public order, and national stability.

“You do have, as a sovereign country, the right to control how many people you absorb, how many people you allow in, and who those people are,” he said.
