Sikh Coalition launches new digital advocacy platform

The platform will allow users to send pre-written emails to their representatives and senators.

The Sikh Coalition launched a digital advocacy platform enabling community members to contact their elected representatives on a range of policy issues.

According to the organization, the platform allows users to send pre-written emails to their representatives and senators regarding but not limited to four major issues of relevance to the community.

The first urges support for H.Res.841, a resolution introduced earlier this month by Congressman David Valadao and other members of the California delegation to formally recognize the 1984 anti-sikh riots in India as Sikh Genocide.

Another campaign asks constituents to caution lawmakers against engaging with lobbyists linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

The platform also seeks support for the bipartisan Religious Workforce Protection Act (S.1298/H.R.2672), which would allow R-1 visa holders—including granthis and other religious workers—who have applied for permanent residence to remain in the United States while their applications are processed.

In addition, users can petition lawmakers to back the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act (S.455/H.R.1061). The bill would reinstate and codify earlier Department of Homeland Security guidance limiting immigration enforcement at “sensitive locations” such as gurdwaras, schools, hospitals and other community facilities.

Founded in the aftermath of the Sept 11 attacks in 2001, the Sikh Coalition has been at the forefront of advocating for Sikh civil rights in the United States. The organization has actively engaged in legal advocacy, working towards legislative reforms to safeguard Sikh civil rights, and has offered legal support to individuals facing discrimination or hate crimes based on their Sikh identity.
