Indian American computer scientist Sethuraman Panchanathan and Indian music composer and environmentalist Ram Gyan "Ricky" Kej were among the distinguished recipients of the Padma Shri awards at a ceremony held on May 27. The Padma Shri is one of India’s highest civilian honors, presented by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Panchanathan served as the 15th Director of the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) from 2020 until his resignation earlier this year in April. Dr. Panchanathan has a distinguished record of advancing research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, both in his role at NSF and as executive vice president of knowledge enterprise development at Arizona State University.
