Sam Houston State appoints Sumanth Yenduri as provost

His appointment is effective July 17, 2025.

Sam Houston State University (SHSU) has appointed Indian-American computer scientist Sumanth Yenduri as its next provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. 

A distinguished academic leader, Yenduri brings with him nearly 20 years of experience in higher education leadership, research, and student-centered innovation.

In his new role, Yenduri will oversee academic affairs, drive strategic planning, enhance research and teaching excellence, support faculty development, and advance student success, the University said in a statement. 

Yenduri currently serves as dean of the College of Computing and Software Engineering at Kennesaw State University in Georgia, where he oversees the academic journey of over 5,800 students and 135 faculty and staff members, managing a $25 million budget. Under his leadership, the college has seen a 36 percent increase in enrollment and significant growth in its graduate and doctoral offerings.

His energy, expertise and collaborative approach will be instrumental in advancing our mission and shaping the future of the university,” said Alisa White, president of Sam Houston State University. 

Commenting on his new role, Yenduri said, “My deepest gratitude to the president, the search committee and all stakeholders for their confidence in my leadership. Sam Houston State has a strong legacy of service, excellence and community engagement. I am thrilled, and look forward to working collaboratively with faculty, staff, students and alumni.”

Prior to Kennesaw State University, he served as an associate professor in Columbus State University and The University of Southern Mississippi. 

His academic background includes a master’s and doctoral degree in computer science from Louisiana State University and a bachelor’s degree from Andhra University in India.
