Kapoor joins Carnegie Mellon after more than a decade in senior marketing leadership roles within the University of California system. He spent 10 years at the University of California, Berkeley, and two years at the system office, which oversees multiple campuses, medical centers, and national laboratories.

During his tenure at Berkeley, Kapoor led the development and rollout of the campus’s first comprehensive institutional branding initiative, including the creation of a unified brand framework across academic and administrative units. He also oversaw large-scale marketing campaigns and helped establish an internal agency model to deliver design, digital, and advertising services.

“Carnegie Mellon has an impressive legacy of innovation and a unique brand heritage,” Kapoor said. “This is an opportune moment for the university to enhance its visibility, cement its global stature, and create a cohesive and resonant CMU brand.”

Tysen Kendig, vice president for UCM, said Kapoor’s experience across the University of California system and global brand agencies positions him to guide Carnegie Mellon’s branding efforts. “In an era defined by intense competition and rapid digital transformation, the demand for sophisticated marketing leadership in higher education is critical,” he added.

Kapoor holds a master of business administration degree from the Indian Institute of Management and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).

His work has received recognition from several industry bodies, including the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and international advertising and marketing awards.
