The City of Raleigh's Department of Transportation has appointed Het Patel, an Indian-American urban transportation planner, as the city's new Transit Assistant Director, beginning June 28.
In the role, Patel will be tasked with overseeing planning, operations, and strategic initiatives,the department said in a statement.

Patel brings over six years of experience to the role. He joined the department as a Senior Transit Planner and later advanced to Transit Planning Supervisor, playing a pivotal role during a period of rapid transit expansion and development in the city.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to take a leadership role within the organization and continue to make a difference in providing safe, reliable, and accessible transportation options for the community,” Patel said.
In his new capacity, Patel will report directly to Transportation Director Paul Kallam and will be based at Raleigh Union Station, a central hub for the city’s evolving transportation network.
Director Kallam expressed strong support for Patel’s appointment, noting, “He brings a strong sense of collaboration, problem-solving, and vision to our team. Raleigh is growing fast, and Het’s leadership will help our transit division rise to meet the needs of our community.”
