Indian-origin software engineer Raj Shah has launched his new book attempting to demystify Hinduism for young Hindu American minds.

Raj Shah, a software engineer by profession, an Indian culture enthusiast, an ardent promoter of Hinduism and a cancer survivor, has lived in the United States since 1970, calling it his “Karmabhoomi” while cherishing India as his “Mathrubhumi.”

Designed especially for children growing up in the United States, Shah’s new book, 'The What, Why, and How of Hinduism: Essential Facts and Answers for the New Generation', seeks to answer questions that young minds are likely to ask.

His book tackles basic questions like “What is Hinduism?” “Why are there so many gods and goddesses?” “Is Dharma the same as religion?” “What is the caste system?” etc.

Rather than overwhelming readers, Shah presents answers in a structured and accessible format that meets children at their level of understanding.

The book organizes each topic into six dimensions. It starts off with a “Simple Answer,” a quick two- to three-line explanation, ideal for younger readers, followed by a “Full Answer,” a deeper, yet easy-to-understand explanation for growing minds.

The topics would also feature a “Did You Know?” section, which would deliver fun and fascinating facts that spark curiosity. The “Think About This” section would offer reflective prompts that encourage critical thinking. It would also feature a “Key Takeaway” column helping children access a concise summary to reinforce learning.

The publishers of the book, Desh-Videsh Publishing, note that it is “more than just a book of answers,” but instead is a “guide for self-discovery and cultural connection.”

It also noted that the book would help children understand their roots and cultural identity, learn universal values such as kindness, responsibility and respect, build confidence in their heritage and beliefs, see Hinduism not just as a religion but as a meaningful way of life, and lastly act as a bridge between generations while making complex ideas approachable without losing their depth.

“Understanding your roots helps shape your future,” says Shah in a statement.

He added, “This book is meant to give children not just answers, but confidence and clarity in who they are.”

Raj has served as chairman of the board for the Hindu University of America’s South Florida campus and was a founding board member and chairman of the International Hindu University. He currently sits on the board of the Akshaya Patra South Florida Chapter and is actively involved with the Broward School Board.

Raj has authored multiple books and children’s titles, inspiring generations with Hindu values and traditions.
