Virginia State Senator Kannan Srinivasan said 21 of his bills have been sent to the governor following the adjournment of the Virginia General Assembly’s 2026 session on March 15.

Highlighting an agenda centered on affordability and utility regulation, Srinivasan said on X, “I’m proud to share that 21 of my bills are officially headed to the Governor’s desk.”

Among the measures confirmed to have advanced is Senate Bill 553, which seeks to bring transparency to water usage by data centers and other high-consumption users.

“One of the bills I am most proud of this session, SB 553 brings much-needed transparency to data center water use — ensuring we can plan ahead and responsibly manage one of our most critical natural resources — water,” he said.

The bill requires water utilities to report how much water is supplied to data centers, with regular disclosures aimed at improving public access to consumption data, as concerns grow over the environmental impact of large-scale facilities.

One of the other measures is SB 72, which requires electric utilities to assist certain low-income households in transitioning from oil and propane heating to energy-efficient electric heat pumps, with the aim of reducing long-term energy costs.

The 2026 session saw increased legislative focus on energy demand, rising utility costs and the expansion of data centers in Virginia. Srinivasan’s legislation reflects those priorities, particularly in balancing economic growth with resource management.

The senator has also backed proposals related to healthcare affordability, student welfare, housing protections and workplace safety during the session.

The governor is expected to review the legislation in the coming weeks.
