The development comes ahead of the 2026 season of Major League Cricket, scheduled from June 18 to July 18, featuring six teams and 34 matches. The Pomona venue has been designated as one of three host sites for the tournament.
Located about 50 kilometers east of downtown Los Angeles, Fairplex is a nearly 500-acre multi-purpose complex that hosts the LA County Fair and other events year-round.
The project also aligns with preparations for the 2028 Summer Olympics, where cricket is set to return after more than a century, with matches planned at the Pomona fairgrounds.
Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan, who is co-owner of Knight Riders Sports, said, “Over the years, the Knight Riders have grown into a truly global family, and every new milestone is special for us. Seeing the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) have a home of their own with the Knight Riders Cricket Field is incredibly exciting.
The USA is a great sporting market with passionate fans, and we hope this field becomes a place where people come together to celebrate the game and support the team. I’m really looking forward to this new chapter for the Knight Riders in Los Angeles.”
Venky Mysore, CEO of Knight Riders Sports, said, “Los Angeles is one of the world’s most dynamic sports markets and an important home for the Knight Riders brand.
Establishing the Knight Riders Cricket Field in partnership with Fairplex is a major milestone for our franchise, and we look forward to a long-term partnership with Fairplex to further establish cricket in the USA and building the sport.”
Walter M. Marquez, president and CEO of Fairplex, said, “As the home of the LA County Fair, one of the largest fairs in the country, we are excited to partner with Knight Riders to present cricket, one of the world’s largest sports, on our campus. Fairplex continues to seek new experiences that are unique to Southern California and the Knight Riders will create the field where the community will come together and celebrate.”
Johnny Grave, CEO of Major League Cricket, said, “Bringing Major League Cricket to Los Angeles is a huge milestone for our league and for the growth of cricket across the United States. The Pomona Fairgrounds will be the future home of Olympic cricket in 2028, and we’re thrilled to give fans in Southern California their first taste of the sport at this well-known venue that is home to the LA County Fair.”
The opening match will feature the Los Angeles Knight Riders against Washington Freedom, with all six teams set to compete during the Los Angeles leg. Matches are also scheduled on July 4, coinciding with celebrations marking the United States’ 250th anniversary.
