U.S. public research in 'crisis’: Former White House advisor

Prabhakar flagged risks to federal R&D and linked cuts to long-term impact on innovation, AI and education

Former U.S. science advisor Arati Prabhakar warned that federally funded research is in crisis in the United States, as efforts are being made to weaken the public science base behind breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, vaccines and clean energy.

“The U.S. is in a crisis for publicly funded research and development,” Prabhakar said during a Baker Institute Civic Scientist Lecture at Rice University.
