Toronto had a date with yoga today. To commemorate the International Yoga Day, the Consul-General of India in Toronto, organised an impressive show at Queens Park, outside the Ontario Provincial Assembly.
An enthusiastic gathering of government representatives, diplomatic corps, yoga practitioners, wellness organizations, community leaders, and friends of India joined the celebrations, so most of the participants tried their hands at different asanas of the ancient Indian practice of keeping a sound mind in a sound body.

Addressing the vibrant gathering, Consul General Mahaveer Singhvi emphasized Yoga’s unique power to transcend cultural, linguistic, and national boundaries, bringing people together in a shared pursuit of well-being and reaffirming its timeless relevance as a universal path to health, harmony, and inner balance. Celebrating this year’s theme — ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing’, a beautifully synchronized yoga session served as a powerful celebration of community, connection, and collective well-being.
Almost everyone in the 800-strong gathering evinced keen interest in the yogic exercises and asanas indicating the growing awareness about ancient Indian philosophy of wellness through meditation and asanas. As participants in cohesion performed different asanas under the guidance of yoga experts, it presented a pleasing treat to the eye reflecting a true testament to Yoga’s universal appeal. The scale and energy of the gathering reflected how deeply Yoga’s message of health and harmony resonates with communities far beyond India’s shores.
The Consul-General and its staff appreciated the response and support extended by various yoga and wellness organizations and valued partners whose dedication, collaboration, and outreach helped bring the message of Yoga to people across regions, generations, and all walks of life.
