India's Gill misses warm-up match due to injury

India skipper Shubman Gill was on Friday forced to sit out of a warm-up match ahead of the two-Test series in Sri Lanka due to a finger injury, the country's cricket board said.
India are led by KL Rahul in the three-day game against Sri Lanka Cricket XI starting Aug. 7 at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo.
The opening Test will begin on Aug. 15 at Galle. The second Test will be played between August 23-27 in Colombo.
"Captain Shubman Gill sustained an impact injury to his right ring finger during India's practice on Thursday," the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement.
"As a precautionary measure, he will not take the field on Day 1 of the warm-up game against SLC XI. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress."
The series will be India's first in the current World Test Championship (WTC) since the 2-0 home defeat to South Africa in November.
India are fifth in the WTC standings, which are led by Australia, with Sri Lanka sixth.
