The American Society of Nephrology promoted Indian-origin physician Sam Kant as the next editor-in-chief of its ASN Kidney News, the organization announced May 21.
Kant, a leading nephrologist, is currently serving as the deputy editor of ASN Kidney News since 2023 and as an editorial board member since 2019 and is scheduled to assume his new office beginning Jan. 1, 2027.
Kant has also been involved with ASN publications for several years, serving on editorial boards and contributing to “Fellows Corner” features in Kidney News before becoming deputy editor.
ASN Kidney News is one of the leading nephrology-focused news and analysis publications published by the American Society of Nephrology, which represents nearly 21,000 kidney specialists and researchers globally.

Currently, Kant is serving as a consultant nephrologist and transplant physician at St. Vincent's University Hospital, University College Dublin, Ireland.
ASN noted in a statement that Kant, in his new role, will provide editorial vision and leadership, oversee the development of high-quality content across the spectrum of issues important to the kidney community, and strengthen the magazine's reach and reputation.
Sharing the news of Kant's appointment, ASN said on LinkedIn, "Since joining the Kidney News editorial board in 2019 and serving as deputy editor since 2023, he has helped shape influential conversations across kidney health, research, education, and policy."
They continued, "As editor-in-chief, Dr. Kant leads the editorial vision for one of nephrology’s leading publications, expanding coverage of the breakthroughs, challenges, and perspectives shaping kidney care worldwide."
