Air India will suspend all direct flights from Mumbai and Bangalore to San Francisco from March 1, as per media reports.

The airlines remarked that the sudden withdrawal from the two-ultra long distance routes in order to manage rising costs and improving deploy capacity in light of the ongoing airspace restrictions.

In an attempt to cushion the impact of the move, Air India will increase the number of flights from Delhi to San Francisco. The airline will increase Delhi–San Francisco flights from seven to ten per week and boost Delhi–Toronto services to ten weekly flights, in an attempt to accommodate demand from affected routes

The announcement has caused concern among passengers who had book tickets months in advance, however, the airlines confirmed that they would get in touch with affected passengers and resolve the issue.

The announcement coincides with rising demand and costs, owing to the holiday season. "The months of December and January are among the busiest travel times of the year, and this is when fares typically skyrocket between Christmas and New Year," said TTL Holidays in a statement.

It added, "For NRIs, the biggest challenge is securing fares within budget, even with a last-minute travel option, without compromising on comfort and convenience."
