The Bihar Foundation and the Bihar Jharkhand Association of North America (BJANA) organized a special screening of Oscar-shortlisted film, ‘Champaran Mutton’ on Jun. 1 in Edison, New Jersey.
Champaran Mutton is a captivating cinematic work directed by Ranjan Umakrishn Kumar that celebrates Bihari culture and storytelling. Wrapped in the themes of caste politics and discrimination, the film follows the story of a family based in Bihar and their everyday struggles, wrapped in the motive of Champaran Mutton.
The day’s celebration began with attendees getting an opportunity to interact and click photos with the film’s director, Ranjan Umakrishn. This was followed by the ‘Good Vibe Show’, a podcast by Vandana Jha and Saurav Jha, featuring bollywood actor Pankaj Kumar.
The celebration continued with an address by Umakrishn and a Q&A session where the audience asked about the film and different aspects of the story and its creation.
The highlight of the evening was the special screening of the film and the subsequent Q&A session with the director, Ranjan Umakrishn.
Ranjan Umakrishn Kumar was felicitated for his contribution to cinema, he received accolades from Priti Kashyap, Vice President of BJANA, and a certificate of appreciation from Anand Gupta, Joint Secretary of the Bihar Foundation.

The event also witnessed a tribute video on Padma Vibhushan late Sharda Sinha, in honor of her contribution to Indian music and culture. The video tribute was created by the ‘Good Vibe Show’ team.
The event concluded with closing remarks and a vote of thanks by Anand Gupta.
