Nauvari saree makes cultural statement at Canadian citizenship ceremony

An Indian woman from Maharashtra marked her Canadian citizenship ceremony in a traditional Nauvari saree, saying the choice was a way to “keep her roots alive” as she embraced a new national identity.

Divya Lotlikar attended the oath-taking ceremony dressed in the Maharashtrian nine-yard saree, along with a traditional nath (nose pin) and a bindi. She shared visuals from the ceremony on Instagram, including the moment she received her citizenship certificate.
