A growing share of Americans say the Trump administration is doing “too much” when it comes to deporting immigrants living in the United States illegally.
A survey conducted by the Pew Research Center reveals that 53 percent of U.S. adults surveyed from Oct. 6 to 16 believe that the administration's deportation efforts have exceeded reasonable limits, an increase from 44 percent in March, coinciding with a nationwide intensification of immigration enforcement.

At the same time, a majority of Americans continue to say that at least some immigrants who are in the country illegally should be deported.
Overall, 50 percent of adults disapprove of the administration’s approach to immigration, including 36 percent who strongly disapprove. By contrast, 39 percent approve, with 24 percent saying they strongly approve.
Views have shifted across partisan and demographic groups since March. Among Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters, 86 percent now say the administration is doing too much on deportations, an increase of 11 percentage points. Among Republicans and Republican leaners, 20 percent share this view, up seven points over the same period.
On the broader question of deportation policy, Republicans and Democrats remain sharply divided. A majority of Republicans, 56 percent, say all immigrants living in the U.S. illegally should be deported, while 39 percent say some should be deported and 4 percent say none should.
Among Democrats, 62 percent say some immigrants should be deported, 30 percent say none should be deported, and just 8 percent say all should be removed.
Concerns about the personal impact of deportations have also increased. In March, 19 percent of U.S. adults said they worried a lot or some that they, a family member, or a close friend could be deported.
By October, that figure had risen to 26 percent. Democrats remain far more likely than Republicans to express this concern, at 41 percent compared with 10 percent.
