Indian-origin Chicago journalist's wife dies
Her cremation was held at DuPage Cremations Funeral Chapel in West Chicago.

Kala Oza, the wife of Indian-origin Chicago news media journalist and photographer Jayanti Oza, has died following a sudden deterioration in her health. She was 79.
Kala passed away on Aug. 8, 2026. She had been hospitalized at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. Despite the dedicated efforts of the medical team, she could not overcome her illness.

Her cremation was held on Aug. 9 at DuPage Cremations Funeral Chapel in West Chicago. A large number of friends, well-wishers and members of the Chicago Indian American community attended the final rites. Representatives of several senior community organizations, including Bharatiya Seniors, Indian Seniors of Chicago, United Senior Pariwar and Universal Metropolitan Adult Seniors, were present to pay their respects.
A prayer and memorial meeting was held on Aug. 11 at India Hub in Schaumburg, Illinois, where family members, friends and community leaders gathered to remember Kala and celebrate her life.
Chicago singers Ujjwal Shukla, Mihir Acharya, Rita Patel and Rashila Dobriya presented devotional bhajans during the gathering, offering a heartfelt musical tribute and farewell.
On the occasion, Bharatiya Senior Citizens President Haribhai Patel, TV Asia Bureau Chief Vandana Jhingan, Yashaswini Desai and members of the Oza family shared emotional words and memories, honoring Kala Oza's life and her place within the community.
Kala Oza is survived by her husband, Jayanti Oza; son Bharat Oza; daughters Kiran and Dipti Oza; son-in-law Ajay Dalwadi; and grandchildren Akash, Mahin, Abhi, Elon and Aryana.
