German Chancellor Friedrich Merz described consultations at the White House as “fateful days” for Ukraine and Europe, following hours of talks with U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“We have just had a very intensive consultation at the White House. Everyone feels that these are indeed fateful days for Ukraine and for Europe,” Merz said after the meeting, which came three days after Trump’s Alaska talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
