A 26-year-old man from Kerala is facing deportation from the United Kingdom after repeatedly stalking a female colleague at London Zoo.

Asish Jose Paul was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court to six months in prison, suspended for 12 months, along with 20 days of rehabilitation activity and a ten-year restraining order.

The court heard that between July and December last year, Paul persistently contacted the woman with text messages, flowers, chocolates, and a marriage proposal, despite her making it clear she did not welcome the attention.

Paul was first arrested in January and released on bail with conditions to avoid the zoo. He returned the following day, resulting in further arrests and stricter bail terms, including bans on entering the Borough of Westminster and approaching within 50 metres of the zoo. He ignored these orders, telling park staff he was “in love” with the woman.

The court was told Paul used multiple SIM cards and a friend’s phone to attempt further contact, and that his mother had also tried to reach the victim.

He had met her while working at the zoo café, and continued attempts to approach her even after losing his job. The victim later changed her workplace location and confessed that the incident had taken a toll on her emotionally and psychologically.

Judge Jas Jandu warned Paul that he could face up to five years in prison if he breached the restraining order and noted that his visa expires in September 2025, making him eligible for deportation unless granted a new visa.

Paul had completed a master’s degree in accounting and finance at Anglia Ruskin University in 2023 after studying business administration in India.
