Non-profit organization Welcoming America, in collaboration with creative studio and lifestyle brand DANG, recently announced the launch of an artistic collaboration inspired by the motto ‘E Pluribus Unum.’ Conceptualized by Karan Dang, Los Angeles-based artist, founder of DANG, the collection marries streetwear, film, and storytelling to reimagine one of America’s most iconic mottos—“Out of Many, One.” 100 percent of the proceeds of this range will go towards Welcoming America’s initiatives.

Accompanying the launch is “A Table for All,” a short film directed by Carol Saraiva and Will Mazzola and produced by Jessica Zerby that follows Dang—himself the child of a two-time refugee family—through immigrant neighborhoods and local markets as he prepares a communal meal with friends from around the world.

New India Abroad spoke to Karan Dang about the collection, his family’s refugee history, and the unique challenges of ‘belonging’ for the South Asian diaspora in America today. Here are the highlights of our interview.
