Former Vice President Kamala Harris will be honored at the Louisiana Democratic Party's 2026 Masquerade Sneaker Ball in New Orleans on Aug. 7, where she will also deliver the keynote address.
The event comes as Louisiana Democrats intensify efforts around voting rights and congressional representation following a recent Supreme Court ruling affecting the state's congressional map.

Harris’ visit is significant as the fight over Black congressional representation in Louisiana and across the South has emerged as a major political battleground after the court's decision. She has slammed the court's Louisiana v. Callais ruling as "backdooring racism through politics."

Black voters remain a powerful voting bloc in Democratic presidential primaries, and early 2028 primary polls show Harris leading all other potential contenders among this critical constituency.
Speculation about Harris' political future has continued to grow as Democrats look ahead to the 2028 presidential election. Earlier this year, Harris said she was considering another White House run, while also ruling out a bid for California governor, a decision many political observers viewed as preserving a potential path to a presidential campaign.
The event will mark Harris' second trip to Louisiana this year. She visited New Orleans in January for a stop on her book tour and attended the swearing-in ceremony of New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno.
