International Geeta Mahotsav held in Ethiopia
Organizers said the festival demonstrated growing interest in Indian philosophical traditions in Africa.

Ethiopia hosted the International Geeta Mahotsav in its capital, marking a cultural event centered on the teachings of the Bhagavad Geeta. The gathering brought together diplomats, scholars, students, spiritual leaders and members of the Indian diaspora.
The event was organized with support from Indian cultural groups and Ethiopian partners. Organizers described the festival as an effort to highlight shared heritage and cultural engagement between India and Ethiopia.
India’s ambassador to Ethiopia, Anil Rai, delivered the keynote address. He said the Bhagavad Geeta holds universal value beyond religious identity.
“The Bhagavad Geeta is not just a religious text; it is a global guidebook for courage, clarity, and character,” he said. “Its teachings belong to the entire humanity, and Ethiopia’s participation in this Mahotsav reflects the growing spiritual and cultural friendship between our nations.”
Rai added that the event reflected strengthening ties.
“India and Ethiopia share civilizational values based on peace, cooperation, and mutual respect,” he said. “Events like the International Geeta Mahotsav deepen people-to-people bonding and open new doors for cultural diplomacy.”
Cultural activities included chanting sessions by Indian and Ethiopian students, a manuscript exhibition, classical dance and music performances, panel discussions on governance and ethics, and workshops for youth focusing on leadership and stress management.
Ethiopian cultural leaders attending the event described the Geeta as “a timeless guide to moral clarity.” They expressed support for continued cultural exchange between the two countries.
Organizers said the festival demonstrated growing interest in Indian philosophical traditions in Africa. They noted plans for similar events in the future.
The program concluded with a collective prayer for peace, referencing the message of the Bhagavad Geeta.
