The parents of an Indian student whose body was recovered in Finland after he went missing in May were denied visas to travel to the country to search for him, the family's lawyer, KLB Kumar, has said.

According to Kumar, Finnish authorities rejected the visa applications of the parents of 18-year-old Manideep Reddy, citing reasons including their failure to provide proof of sufficient financial means to support themselves during their stay.

Reddy, a native of Hyderabad, was pursuing a bachelor's degree in software and systems engineering at Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology. He was last seen on May 5 after traveling by train from Lahti to Helsinki.

According to a petition Kumar filed in the Telangana High Court last month, surveillance footage showed Reddy arriving at Helsinki Central Railway Station at about 5:14 p.m. local time. He later visited a burger restaurant before being seen at a K-Market supermarket in the Kruunuvuorenranta area around 8 p.m.

Finnish police said a body recovered during a search operation in Kruunuvuorenranta on July 9 was identified as Reddy's. Authorities said personal belongings found with the body, including a Finnish identity card, his mother's bank card and Indian currency, helped confirm his identity.

The National Bureau of Investigation is examining the cause of death. Police said no crime is currently suspected.

Kumar said that the family considers the death "suspicious" and alleged that Finnish authorities stopped communicating with them after May 29. He said investigators informed the family that Reddy's university account was successfully accessed on May 9, with another login recorded on May 10, both after his disappearance. According to Kumar, police said they were examining the devices and IP addresses associated with those logins.

Kumar also said Reddy spoke to his mother shortly before he disappeared and requested that Rs 6,000 be transferred to his account. The family expressed that bank records indicate the money was never used.

Kumar reiterated the family's demand for a thorough investigation, saying Finnish authorities should establish both the circumstances surrounding Reddy's disappearance and the cause of his death.
