Peel Regional Police have arrested three Indian-origin teens in connection with a string of violent robberies in Brampton, Canada that targeted South Asian individuals, including members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. The arrests follow an ongoing investigation into incidents that occurred between April and May 2025.

According to the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau, the suspects used social media to lure victims under false pretenses, arranging in-person meetings during which the victims were robbed. In some cases, a firearm was reportedly used.

On July 4, police executed search warrants at multiple residences in the Region of Peel. As a result, 18-year-old Hardil Singh Mehrok of Brampton and two male youths aged 16 and 17 were taken into custody. They were charged with two counts of kidnapping and three counts of robbery each. All three are being held pending a bail hearing.

The identities of the two minors are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Earlier in the investigation, two other suspects were arrested on May 31. In total, six individuals have now been identified. Investigators believe the group specifically targeted South Asian victims and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community through deceptive online interactions.

Police have also issued an arrest warrant for 20-year-old Preetpal Kooner of Mississauga, who faces the same charges.

“The Crown Attorney’s Office is being consulted with respect to hate-motivated charges,” police said in the statement. “Investigators believe there may be additional victims who have not come forward out of fear. Please note that investigators will prioritize protecting the identity and well-being of all victims.”

A media briefing was scheduled for 2 p.m. on July 9 at police headquarters at 7150 Mississauga Road.

Peel Regional Police have urged the public to exercise caution when meeting people from online platforms, recommending that meetings take place in public settings and that individuals notify someone of their whereabouts.
