An Indian national, Gautam Santhosh, was killed in a small plane crash in Canada on July 27. The accident occurred near Deer Lake Airport in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Santhosh, 27, was one of two people on board the aircraft. Both he and the 54-year-old Canadian pilot were pronounced dead at the scene.

The aircraft involved was a Piper PA-31 Navajo, a twin-engine plane operated by Kisik Aerial Survey Inc., a company based in Delta, British Columbia. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed that the crash happened shortly after takeoff.

Santhosh, originally from Kerala, was employed by Kisik Aerial Survey Inc. as a technical expert. He was the only passenger on the flight.

The Indian Consulate in Toronto issued a statement expressing condolences. “With deep sorrow, we mourn the tragic passing of Mr. Gautam Santhosh, an Indian national, who lost his life in an accident involving a commercial survey aircraft near Deer Lake, Newfoundland,” the post read.

The Consulate also confirmed it was in contact with Santhosh’s family and local authorities in Canada to provide necessary assistance. “We are in touch with the bereaved family and local authorities to offer whatever assistance and support may be needed in the need of the hour,” the statement said.

The Piper Navajo, which can typically carry up to eight passengers, was conducting a commercial aerial survey when the incident occurred. Investigations into the cause of the crash are underway.
