The Consulate General of India in New York, in partnership with GOPIO-Manhattan (Global Organization of People of Indian Origin), organized a book donation event on Oct. 27 at the Millburn Free Public Library.
More than 100 books in various Indian languages were donated, encompassing topics such as literature, art, philosophy, history, and culture to highlight India’s cultural and literary legacy.
The initiative aims to enhance cross-cultural understanding and offer local residents deeper perspectives on India’s traditions and contemporary narratives.

The event was attended by Deputy Consul General of India in New York Vishal Jayeshbhai Harsh, Mayor of Millburn Township Annette Romano, Millburn Public Library president Sara Sherman, GOPIO Manhattan secretary Bhavya Gupta, and other community representatives.
“India’s heritage is not confined by geography—it belongs to all who are curious about its depth and diversity,” said Deputy Consul General Harsh. “Through these books, we hope to bring a slice of India’s cultural richness to readers in New Jersey and strengthen the bridge of understanding between our two great nations.”
Mayor Annette Romano noted, “Millburn has always embraced cultural diversity and global perspectives. We are honored to receive this generous donation from the Consulate and to see our library become a gateway for residents to explore India’s art, history, and philosophy.”
Millburn Public Library director Michael Banick said, “I am very pleased to accept this donation from the Consul General. I think it underscores the relationship with our community.”
GOPIO Manhattan secretary Bhavya Gupta added, “We really cherish this initiative to create India Corner across this esteemed public institution towards broadening the understanding of our rich Indian heritage and culture through the donation of highly curated and diverse books across subjects.”
The vote of thanks was delivered by Sapna Gupta on behalf of Millburn residents and the Friends of Millburn Library.
