Men caught in CCTV stealing the artefacts / avonandsomerset.police.uk
A number of artifacts from India are among more than 600 “high-value” items stolen during a burglary at a Bristol museum in United Kingdom.
According to the local police, the stolen items were part of Bristol Museum’s British Empire and Commonwealth collection. They include culturally significant objects such as an ivory Buddha and a waist belt buckle belonging to an East India Company officer. Police said many of the artifacts were donations to the museum.

In a statement, the police announced that detectives investigating the burglary are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying four suspects depicted in CCTV footage released as part of the investigation.
Detective Constable Dan Burgan of Avon and Somerset Police said the theft represented a major cultural loss. “These items, many of which were donations, form part of a collection that provides insight into a multi-layered part of British history, and we are hoping that members of the public can help us to bring those responsible to justice,” he said. .
Police have also urged anyone who may have seen the stolen items being sold online to come forward.
