Indian American lawmakers participated in ‘No Kings’ rallies held across the United States, joining protests that drew crowds in multiple states to voice opposition to President Donald Trump and concerns over democracy and governance.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal said the demonstrations reflected a national response. “Today is No Kings Day,” she said. “Across this country, people are waking up and making a choice – to show up, speak out, and refuse to be silenced.”

She added, “Trump wants us to believe that resistance is futile. That one man and his billionaire backers are too powerful to fight. That we should just accept it. Today is our answer to that.”

Rep. Ro Khanna wrote on X that, “The Epstein class thinks it runs America. They treat the rest of us as dispensable.” He added, “We need to stand up against wars of choice & elite impunity.”

In Maine, gubernatorial candidate Nirav Shah pointed to turnout at protests across the state. “Democracy isn’t a given. It’s a process that requires participation and support,” he wrote on X. “The long arc of history only bends toward justice if we put our weight behind it.” He said the turnout showed that “Mainers are all in on protecting our rights, our freedoms, our health, and each other.”

In California, congressional candidate Rakhi Israni said, “In America, we don't bow to kings and bullies.” She added, “We don't hand over our country to politicians who think they are going to stay in power forever, or that they are above the law. This country belongs to the people, and not the powerful. And we will fight for it.”

New Jersey Assemblyman Ravi Bhalla described strong participation in his state. “Hoboken and Jersey City really showed up for No Kings!” he said. “We were proud to stand with hundreds of our neighbors and join the millions of Americans taking to the streets against fascism.” He added, “Today and everyday, we'll continue fighting back against rising authoritarianism, Trump's lawlessness, and ICE violence.”

Rep. Shri Thanedar attended a ‘No Kings’ rally in Grosse Pointes, Michigan.

Rep. Suhas Subramanyam also highlighted turnout, writing on X, “Great turnout and enthusiasm at No Kings! It’s clear people are ready to stand up for our democracy and fight for our country.”

The rallies took place nationwide under the banner “NO KINGS,” with participants emphasizing civic engagement and opposition to what they described as authoritarian tendencies.
