A video of an Indian-American girl explaining the contents of her lunchbox has drawn widespread attention online after being shared by New York City’s official government social media handle.
The clip features a student named Anya, who introduces herself and describes her lunch in detail. “My name is Anya and this is what's in my lunchbox. I brought my Indian noodles. It's called Maggi,” she says in the video, adding that the dish is made by boiling the noodles with spices, resulting in a yellow broth.

When asked about her favourite food, she replies, “The chicken curry mommy would make because mom puts different spices in it, they have different smells.”
The video was posted on NYC Government’s Instagram as part of the city’s “What’s In My Lunchbox” campaign, which spotlights the lunches of public school students to highlight the city’s cultural diversity.
The post was captioned, “True fact: there’s never a curry better than mommy’s. What’s In My Lunchbox: Season Two is here! We’re celebrating our city’s diversity and AAPI Heritage Month through our public school students’ lunchboxes.”
The video has been widely circulated on social media, with users responding to Anya’s enthusiasm and the broader message of representation.
Maggi noodles, a quick-cook snack popular in Indian households, have long held nostalgic value for many in the South Asian diaspora. The campaign comes during Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month and is intended to reflect the diversity of student backgrounds in New York City public schools.
The “What’s In My Lunchbox” series is not new but has gained renewed traction as the city leans on food as a way to tell stories of immigrant heritage. A Facebook post by the city describes the initiative as a “delicious ode to what makes New York special.”
