Mrs. Universe-America Shifali Jamwal, an Indian-American environmental advocate, was crowned Mrs. Ambition for her sustainability message throughout the competition.

Representing the USA, Jamwal participated in the eight-day competition and was noted for wearing only rented, borrowed or second-hand outfits. This choice was made to highlight the significance of sustainability, even in high fashion.

Talking about her sustainability choices at the competition, she said on Instagram, "Every single outfit I wore during the eight-day pageant was either rented, borrowed, or bought secondhand. It wasn't easy, especially when there are so many shortcuts available, however, I just proved to myself that elegance and sustainability can go hand in hand even on an international scale and in an industry like pageantry."

Her message of environmental conservation was reflected in all her outfits. During the competition, she walked the ramp wearing a dress with a "glacier mountain halo", which symbolized nature’s crown, and an "icicle dress" that was gradually melting into water. With this dress, she highlighted the rising sea levels that are affecting communities across the globe.

Jamwal competed against over 120 women from across the globe at the 48th edition of the pageant, held at Okada, Manila, Philippines.

Expressing joy over her victory, she said on Instagram, "Honored to have received the Ambition award at @mrsuniverseofficial."

She further said, "It is all the more special since I did the entire pageant while staying true to my environmental values, every step of the way."

Jamwal is the daughter of Indian Army veteran Brigadier Raj Singh Jamwal. She is also the co-founder of the sustainability non-profit 'Live2Serve'.

Sherry Sikandar Singh from India was crowned as the Mrs. Universe.
